Types of pocket-sticks

De Yawara
Takayuki Kubota based his kubotan on the yawara. The yawara is a simple short rod often with drawings on it. The was often carried concealed (to give it another intention). The yawara looks the least like a weapons but that is its soul purpose and there not legal to have. Yawaras are simple to make and cost very little.

The official Kubotan
The official Kubotan is only sold by Takayuki Kubota. It is an plastic rod with ... and a key ring on the end. This kubotan does not look aggressive and is legal if used to keep your keys together.

Not official Kubotans
Not official kubotans come in different materials and colors. The most known are the aluminium kubotan. These come in several types (blunt, tapered, ninja spiked).

Tapered kubotan (C)
With the Realistic pocket-stick training we use the tapered version. The reason for this is that the pressure on the tip is much more that with a blunt model.
A pressure of 50 Kg results in a pressure of:
33 Kg/cm2 (official kubotan models)
200 Kg/cm2 (tapered kubotan models).


The Finger Gripped Kubotan (B)
A plus of the finger gripped kubotan is that it very difficult te get out of someone's hands. A minus of the finger gripped kubotan is that it looks more like a weapon. Even when you attach your keys to it, it will be difficult to convince a judge that it's 'just' a key-holder.

The Ninja spiked kubotan (A)
This type of kubotan has no value in proportional self-defence. Besides the fact you can use it for self-defence, you will probably get a judge conviced it was used for self-defence. We don't recommend this kubotan for use.

De Weeble een relatief nieuw innovatie met de potentie om uit te groeien tot een populair zelfverdedigings hulpmiddel. De Weeble heeft vele pluspunten van de andere pocket-sticks zoals: verdikt einde en dat het er ook niet als een wapen uit ziet. De Weeble heeft ook een schroefdop op het einde waardoor je het ook als opbergruimte kunt gebruiken voor oa: noodgeld, telefoonnummers of drinken.

Tactical flashlights
De tactical flashlight heeft alle aspecten van een pocket-stick en kan ook nog licht geven. Hoewel de tactical flashlight minder geschikt is om mee te slaan, kun je er uitstekend druk mee uit oefenen om een aanvaller van je af te krijgen. Aan het uiteinde kun je ook je sleutels hangen.

Alle daagse voorwerpen
Er zijn vele voorwerpen welke je op eenzelfde manier kunt gebruiken als een pocket-stick in geval van nood. Denk hierbij aan: een pen, bestek, rol snoep. Van voorwerp tot voorwerp dien je te bepalen wat je er wel en niet mee kunt.
